GABRIELLE ALBERTS BIO

Gabrielle Alberts is a ceramic artist known for her unique fusion of retro and vintage cultural references with traditional pottery techniques. Her work is a dynamic exploration of form, illustration, and storytelling, where sculpting and painting come together in a seamless, expressive medium.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of sources—including vintage cartoons, illustration, nature, and Japanese aesthetics— Gabrielle crafts ceramics that are both visually striking and conceptually engaging. The shape of each vessel plays a crucial role in her creative process, often dictating the final design.
Her meticulous hand-painted illustrations transform each ceramic piece into a bold, three-dimensional canvas, bringing her intricate and often darkly humorous narratives to life.
Gabrielle honed her craft at the prestigious Michaelis School of Fine Art, where she completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate Master’s degree, specialising in ceramic sculpture. Her academic background provided her with a strong foundation in both technical skill and artistic expression, allowing her to push the boundaries of traditional ceramics.
Currently based in Cape Town, South Africa, Gabrielle continues to create one-of-a-kind ceramic artworks that challenge conventions and captivate audiences. Through her distinctive style and imaginative approach, she has established herself as a compelling voice in contemporary ceramic art.
